STERIC TAN, U LIVE CYBER GUIDE

Steric Tan (MIWU), 70 years old, is an advocate and firm believer in lifelong learning and
helping others.

From a young age, Steric actively volunteers his time in doing meaningful community work
by helping others. Unafraid of the unknown, Steric has self-taught himself a wide range of
skills ranging from music, handicrafts to computer and digital knowledge. His colleagues and
peers looked up to him for his resourcefulness and he enjoyed acquiring new knowledge at
every step.

Since his retirement 10 years ago, it has only given him more time to continue picking up
new skills and knowledge while committing his time to give back the community. Steric
volunteers weekly to assist in digital clinics in helping active-agers catch up with technology
and learn other skills, and at the same time manages a Whatsapp group to keep in touch
with his peers by continuously sharing new information.

Steric shares a tip in empowering seniors: Instead of just helping to fix their tech issues,
teach them how to use Google search. Demonstrate searching the issue and finding the
solution. This empowers seniors to know how they can resolve issues by themselves if they
encounter any.

This month, Steric would like to share a cool trick to “transport” yourself or your
family/friends to anywhere you want! He has kindly recorded this tutorial at home, check it out!
