If you are someone who never likes to stick to the same routine every day or every weekend, here is a set of hobby list that you could consider trying and breaking free from mundane routines!

 

  1. Embroidery

    Going way back into many years ago, embroidery was one the most popular hobby amongst the ladies.  Now the trend has come where everyone would do embroidery to relieve stress and express your creativity – or simply to just past time fruitfully.

     

    According to studies, these are the benefits of embroidery:

    • Develops your creativity – creativity is a raw gem that needs continuous training and development; thus, embroidery was proven that people become more creative through the continuous exposure and focus on patterns, colours, and stitches.

       

    • Improves brain function – as it requires a lot of manoeuvring the thread and needle in precision; and creating/following a design/pattern which brings out positive benefits to those with mental problems, especially with dementia

       

    • Relieves stress – they are known to be therapeutic methods in relieving stress and anxiety. Many people in this generation are always up and running on the edge of seats to work but forgot to sit and just relax, so embroidery will be the reminder for it!

       

  2. Origami

    Did you know that studies have shown that creating origami which has helped to improves one’s fine motor skills and brain development? Creating origami is one of those hands-on activities which are not tiresome physically and has been acknowledged for its effectiveness for those who are in the early stages of dementia.

     

    How does it improve our motor skills and brain development?

    • Hand-eye coordination - Physically our hands become active therefore impulses are sent to the brain activating both left and right hemispheres of the brain.

       

    • Mental concentration – Our tactile, motor, and visual areas of the brain are activated and brought into use to ensure that we follow the steps and create the origami design correctly.

       

    • Gratification – When completing the origami, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction which results to relaxation.

  3. Yoga

    Time after time, Yoga has been one of the best methods for relaxation an also a hobby. If you’re still unsure why Yoga is good for you and why you should try it out as a new hobby, here’s why:

    • It increases your flexibility through the stretches that are incorporated in yoga
    • It also increases muscle strength and tone
    • It helps to improve respiration, energy and vitality
    • It helps to maintain a balanced metabolism
    • It may help with weight reduction, cardio and circulatory health
    • It helps to yourself protect from injury
